Commercial & Jefferson Street Corridor Enhancements

RITLAND+KUIPER led a design team that created enhancements to these two parallel streets that connect U.S. 63 with public housing, businesses, and many of the important public destinations in downtown Waterloo, including the TechWorks Campus, Young Arena, Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center, Center for the Arts, RiverLoop Expo, Public Library, and 4th Street entertainment district. The multi-year project was phased to align enhancement funding with street reconstruction schedules to maximize the impact of those funds. Enhancements include street tree plantings with specialized tree pit construction, pedestrian and street lighting, bicycle accommodations, paving enhancements at intersections, and burying many overhead utilities to clean up the vertical infrastructure.
