Partnership with the Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa State University Extension, and Trees Forever
RITLAND+KUIPER Landscape Architects has completed over twenty community enhancement projects through the Iowa Community Visioning Program. This program is a joint venture between the Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa State University, and Trees Forever. Many of the small community improvement projects we have been involved with have included a public input planning process called Community Visioning that encourages strategic thinking about potential landscape improvements. The central piece of this process is the development of conceptual plans that graphically illustrate the vision of community leaders and volunteers, often including transportation corridor improvements and open space studies. Examples of completed community projects include a park in Fairbanks, a restored firehouse retrofitted into a unique park shelter in Conrad, gateway signage and landscaping on Highway 3 in Shell Rock, and streetscape improvements in Colfax, Shellsburg, and Clermont.
