Waterloo Women’s Center for Change

This innovative new 45-bed residential facility was developed as a new standard for the Iowa Department of Corrections to provide separate structured living units for female residents. The facility includes a field office wing consisting of conference rooms and offices. Environmentally sustainable practices were employed both inside and outside the building as it pursues LEED Gold Certification. RKLA was responsible for design development, construction drawings, and construction related services for exterior site improvements including use of native plant materials and rain gardens which provide on-site treatment and filtration of stormwater runoff.
