Gunderson Nature Park
The Gunderson Nature Park consists of a 10.7-acre natural area donated to the City of Eldora from Bob and Mary Lou Gunderson combined with an adjacent 14-acre tract owned by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. The park is located on the northeast corner of Eldora bordered on the north by a restored prairie “Pine Lake West” owned by the State of Iowa, the Iowa River and Pine Lake State Park on the east.
The Foundation along with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the City worked with RKLA in planning and obtaining a REAP grant to help fund phase 1 improvements. Phase 1 consists of a restored prairie, wetland, oak savanna planting and timber connected by a combination of both paved and soft trails.
Phase 2 will include trail improvements, a wetland overlook deck and boulder gathering area.
